My Review:

When our Worlds collide is the kind of book you'd think is that same beaten. cliched story of Boy-meets-girl. only, it isn't. This book, this story is like a rebel.

This movie is to books what Queen was to Bollywood. Happy endings, but not the cliched, damsel-in-distress-rescued-by-prince charming ones.

Sure, we do have a damsel, and she sure as hell is in distress. But the story is a quick-read and worth a read.

The characters battle dysfunctional families and broken homes, and the trauma that comes with it and the protagonist- Akriti, steals the show. I can't even explain when she endeared herself, but the magnitude is definitely huge.
those parts in the book have been written very intensely where Akriti fights family.
Rest is all about life falling into place.

This book will leave you with hope and loads of relief.

~About the Book~

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Native American
Blurb:

Andy Redfield is a hard-nose real estate developer, trying to settle his father’s estate and locate the treasure that was mentioned in his father’s will. Bernie Harp is a no-nonsense, private investigator, and who specializes in locating lost objects. When Andy hires her to find his dad’s treasure, she anticipates working alone, as was her custom. She communicates this to Andy in no uncertain terms, but Andy was having none of it. If anything, he was more determined than ever to lend his assistance. When finding the treasure becomes more than a routine job, and the presence of a suspicious intruder is discovered, tempers flare and sparks fly. While they have difficulty seeing eye-to-eye, Andy and Bernie agree on one thing: They need to capture the intruder and locate his father’s treasure.

Kicking and screaming, Bernie is forced to accept his presence on the job, even though it was distracting as hell. With them rubbing each other the wrong way, before they know it, the friction they generate turns to love’s golden heat, igniting a fire neither expected, and neither could deny. So, when Bernie unexpectedly disappears, Andy realizes she was more precious to him than all the treasures in the world, and he’d give up anything to find her—anything, including the treasure, only is he prepared for what he finds?

 Review:

The plot begins as all cliched love stories do, only here both the male and female protagonists are strong-headed: they don't like the feeling of the other getting under their skin. Talent does't matter much when adrenaline steps in.
We have a peek into those inevitable sensations right in the beginning: "if their fingers touching each other could produce such heat, imagine the conflagration if their bodies were to ever meet." Something about Andy rubbed Bernie the wrong way, and Andy was flummoxed around Bernie himself.
From the beginning, we know where this is headed- and to me, it was just an entertaining read, a fast read too!
The narration, the characters- I did not find anything flawed in anything. the plot is a thoroughly amusing one too!

Book Review: Metro Diaries by Namrata

About the book:

Love is one of the most amazing feelings on this earth, one that makes you the most powerful person or the most helpless person in a split second. These stories capture those feelings of despair, longing, love, lust, desire, want, dejection and admiration to create deja vu. Hold onto your hearts as you flip through these pages and take a walk down the memory lane as "Metro Diaries" will revive your innermost feelings and imbibe in you the magic of love. Touching, amusing and deeply moving, Metro Diaries - Love Classics are tales that will hold you from start till end.

About the Author:

Namrata is a prolific blogger known by the name Privy Trifles in the blogosphere who romances life through her writings and aspires to make love the universal language. She dons various hats between that of a contributing author to 7 anthologies a reviewer for leading publishing houses an editor to various books and a columnist. Apart from that she is also the editor for an online magazine called Writer's Ezine. Having mastered the nuances of finance till recently she also held the title of an investment banker closely to let it go to embrace her love for writing fully.

My Review:

This is a collection of some of the most heart-warming love stories. The stories are soulful to their core, and romantic through and through, and each story explores a different emotional dimension: pain, wait, delight, agony, fulfilment, et al. Because well,
"Love stories aren’t created; they are captured."

While I am not very romantic in my choice of books, I'd say this was a decent read. The stories were a giveaway:some of them eventually culminated to the most obvious end, they concluded in a very predictable manner, making romance as cliched as it can get.
However, the surprise was in a couple of the stories which were refreshingly different, and the end was astonishing, in a good way, that is.
There are so many different colors to the stories and a multitude of personalities one can never get bored. There's a vulnerable character haunted by the past, there's someone trying to come out of the closet, then there's another character
I especially liked the pieces of poetry that preceded every story. They have been beautifully written without a doubt, and are heart-rending. Here's an example:
" I want to say a lot of things,
wonder if I will be heard.
I want to hear a lot of things,
wonder if they will be said."

Book Review: Fade Into Red By Reshma K. Barshikar

About the book:

Ayra always wanted to be an Art Historian. She saw herself flitting between galleries, talking Michelangelo and Dali with glamorous ease. At twenty–nine, life has decided to make her an underpaid investment banker juggling an eccentric family, a fading career and a long–distance relationship that is becoming a light-year one. On a monsoon day in June, she is suddenly sent packing from Mumbai to Tuscany to buy a vineyard for a star client. What should have been a four day trip turns into a two week treasure hunt that finds her in the middle of midnight wine deals, dodgy vintners, rolling Tuscan hills, a soap opera family and one playboy millionaire who is looking to taste more than just the wine. Towards the end she finds that the road to true happiness is almost as elusive as that perfect glass of Chianti.

About the Author:

After finishing her A Levels at Bridgine School, Windsor, and getting a BA (Hons) at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, Reshma started her career as a Journalist for India’s national newspaper The Hindu, Business Line but left mid-career to pursue an MBA at the Indian School of Business that led to a  successful career in Investment Banking. After 5 years in Investment Banking she quit her job to travel for two years and visited Europe, China, and the US. She conceptualized the novel during her travels through the Tuscany wine country. She created the eccentric Ms Krishnamurthy, her precocious cat and her dog eat deal environment. Her deep appreciation for the south Indian family dynamic, experience as a freelance journalist and a passion for Italian wine helped create Fade Into Red. Simultaneously she also honed her skills as a Travel Writer and has contributed to India Today Travel Plus, SilverKris, Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia, National Geographic Traveller and The Hindu Business Line. She is also co-founder of the literary blog, The Caterpillar Café.

My Review:
Somehow, the book had me at its cover. It wasn't anything unusual and zany, but it did capture my interest. Now, on to the story.
Ayra is the protagonist. She wanted to be an art historian, but alas this cruel life, she also has a thing for expensive things. Money can buy happiness, and she ends up as an investment banker, vying for a bonus, with a frustrated boyfriend who competed with her blackberry for her attention. She still harbors an undying appreciation for art. She is crippled at photography. And she isn't confrontational. Then we have the ever-smirking playboy in the picture too.
The situation created has a lot of potential for hilarity, but I got less than I expected. I'd say the author has a gift for creating a plot. And although it eventually descended into a cliche, it was fun while it lasted. Even after so much, we rarely get to read stories of women investment bankers now.

I liked the characters. I liked the setting. I liked the story.
But somehow, somehow (and I am still trying to figure out why) I didn't enjoy the book.

My judgement:
It was a little something different. A one-time read.
